George Bower, COO & Governance
Hello, I’m George and I specialise in Family Office and Private Investment Strategy, Governance, and Operations.
I have over 25 years experience in the sector, with over 12 years of these heading a Single Family Office managing in excess of US$ 1 billion in Alternative Assets. I cofounded the office in 2006, onboarding US$400m already invested in across Hedge Fund strategies & managers and LP investments in PE & VC. I quickly scaled this up by developing the end to end operations and technology processes & governance. Over the next 18 months I was managing US$1.2 billion across several Fund of Hedge Funds and Fund of PE Funds structures, and had scaled out the Family Office to handle the interests of multiple generations. I also led several complex & sensitive special situations including global litigation & asset recovery, generational succession, and domicile & residency needs.
Prior to starting the Family Office I worked for KPMG as a senior manager specialising in Strategic & Operational Transformation in Financial Services. My work over the years has been global, and I’ve been lucky to spend significant time in London, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Australia, and China.
More recently I have been involved in FinTech, RegTech, and Venture Financing. I have a particular interest in Tokenisation, Blockchain, and Smart Contracts as a platform for Real & Corporate Asset investing, and the prospects it offers to improve investment risk profiles & investment liquidity.
In recent years I have been able to pursue my interest in emotional well-being and will soon qualify as a licenced psychotherapist. When we are well emotionally, we are mentally fit, and make better decisions & choices.
I’m a keen follower of football, follow my childhood club Bolton Wanderers, and have been involved in a few EFL club purchases with private investors. I have a Masters degree in Corporate Finance and a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Strategy from Oxford University, as well as professional certifications in Private Equity, Venture Capital, and Real Estate.
Piers Metcalfe, Chief Investment Officer
Hello, I’m Piers and I specialise in Capital Allocation and Investment Management.
My expertise cuts across multi-asset investing, both traditional and alternative, and I have been actively involved in Hedge Fund and Private Equity Investing for well over 20 years.
For 13 years, I was Head of Investing at the private office of the Patriarch of a Royal Family from the Gulf and responsible for over US$ 1 billion AUM. Prior to this, I worked in Hedge Fund and Manager Research and Portfolio and Fund Management.
Over the years, I have acquired significant expertise in Investment and Manager Due Diligence and in leading Family Office Operations across a wide spectrum of activities. My experience has given me the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders across the private investing universe, including trustees, bankers and other advisors. I have also led and participated in Real Asset Management and Principal Investing and Private Placements.
More recently, I have been involved in the development and launch of an Institutional Investment Platform that helps build investment portfolios focused on improving the consistency of financial outcomes. Using a data-driven research approach to analysing investments, the platform eliminates the emotion from and reliance on past performance, improving investment decisions. Our research offers institutional investors a repeatable set of rules to reallocate periodically, as well as to remove subjectivity when choosing and sizing investments for portfolios.
Outside of work I am a family man, with a teenage daughter. I enjoy football and we’re keen followers of our local team Brentford F.C. I have had a long standing interest in photography and, in fact, I may be one of only a few investment managers who went to Art School. I’m somewhat of a Francophile and speak the language fluently. I also hold a Master’s degree in Finance and an undergraduate degree in Law.
